Oboe: Cal Zimmerman

Cal studied oboe with Donald Rentchler and piano with Carole Hartline while attending Governor Mifflin Schools. He played oboe in Pennsylvania District Band. While working for AT&T Bell Laboratories he played alto saxophone and clarinet with the Reading Western Electric Band. Then he went on to play alto saxophone and clarinet with the Swing Fever Band for 15 years taking saxophone lessons from J. Carl Borelli to improve his skills.
After retiring he sharpened his oboe abilities by taking lessons from Kim Webster. He also took music classes at Kutztown University and played oboe in the Kutztown Orchestra. For the past several years he has expanded his musical abilities by learning to play the baritone but then decided the tuba was more to his liking. He has played at many Tuba Christmas concerts including at Rockefeller Center in New York City, Boardwalk in Atlantic City, NJ, Harborplace Amphitheater in Baltimore, MA, Railroad Plaza Park in Lansdale, PA, Kimmel Center in Philadelphia, PA, and Gring's Mill in Reading, PA. He has been a member of Brass in Praise for since June, 2006. He has studied tuba with Bill Scheneman.
